Country bumpkin Aaron Slick has been unsuccessfully courting pretty young widow Josie Berry for years. Josie yearns for a fling in the big city. With $20,000 from a crooked deal stashed in their trunk, Bill Merridew and his “kissing cousin” Gladys, stars, in a relative sense, of a touring tent show stop at Josie’s farm. Merridew, actually hiding out, thinks there is oil on the farm and Aaron, knowing otherwise, tricks him into buying the farm for a large sum. Josie takes the money and runs to Chicago, with Merridew, realizing he was tricked, in hot pursuit. Aaron arrives in time to keep Josie from letting Merridew “invest” her money.

One of those movie where some of the actors play a character with the same name, but no one is playing ‘them self, although Zsa Zsa Gabor comes close. Verne Brand, a G. I. from Tennessee with a good singing voice, is talked into going to New York City after he and his buddies, Al Fisher and Lou Marks, are discharged from the U. S. Army. There, they talk former-bookie-turned-record-company-head “Sunny” Moon into signing Verne. Moon and his vice-president, ‘Rocky” Graziano, give Verne a publicity build-up by getting his name into the newspaper gossip columns, and movie-star Zsa Zsa Gabor shows some interest in Verne. This causes Verne’s home-town sweetheart, Marietta (played by June Carter long before she became June Carter Cash), to come to the big city and check the situation out. Verne, a hot-discovery, is signed to appear on Art Ford’s television variety-program…

Fifteen-year-old Katri Walenska jumps a Polish ship, swims ashore and enters New York illegally. The United States Immigration officials are alerted—the USA still had a functioning immigration policy and department when this was filmed—and the search is on. Katri’s only possessions are a ten-dollar bill and a letter to her parents’ old friend, Jan Poldi, a former Metropolitan Opera star. She finds him in a shabby Greenwich Village apartment. His neighbors in the apartment house are three Broadway hopefuls; pop singer Terry Brennan, hoofer Buddy Fraser and Homer Tirdell and his talented dog Red Dust. (Pardon me, make that four Broadway hopefuls counting the dog.) When Terry hears Katri’s magnificent singing voice, she scurries around New York to get her an audition and succeeds in getting her a spot on Don Wilson’s televised amateur hour.
